The Major Scale and Improvisation
One of the ironies of studying guitar is that we learn scales as a useful tool to aid improvisation, but in so doing can end up constrained by the scale patterns that are there to help open up the fretboard. Within the Major Scale there are plenty of Melodic patterns that are of immense value to the improvisor. In this lesson i suggest some useful methods for breaking out of those scale shapes and building up greater dexterity in the fingers. In so doing you should find that you are able to improvise more tunefully as opposed to just repeating scale patterns and runs.
